Intraocular Injections
We provide in-clinic intraocular injections for selected retinal and macular conditions, with specialist care guided by your diagnosis, eye health and referral.
Careful advice before injection treatment
Intraocular injections are used to deliver medication into the eye for selected retinal and macular conditions. They may be recommended when specialist assessment shows that injection therapy is clinically appropriate for your diagnosis.
Injection treatment is not the right option for every patient, so we take an assessment-led approach. Your retinal findings, eye health, medical history and response to previous treatment all help guide the recommendation. If other eye conditions are also affecting your vision, your ophthalmologist may discuss related care such as cataract surgery as part of your broader treatment planning.
In-clinic injections may be relevant for patients receiving care for macular degeneration or diabetic eye disease, depending on the condition, examination findings and specialist advice.
In-clinic injections for selected eye conditions
Intraocular injections place medication inside the eye for certain retinal and macular conditions. Whether they are suitable, which medicine is used and how often treatment is needed depend on your diagnosis, retinal findings and how your eye responds over time.
It is understandable to feel concerned about having an eye injection. We take time to explain why the treatment has been advised, what may happen during your appointment and why ongoing monitoring is important. Patients with retinal disease may also require related care such as retinal surgery, macular degeneration treatment or broader diabetic eye disease management.
If you are continuing injection treatment from another provider or have recently been referred, please bring your current referral, Medicare card, any relevant health cards, your private insurance card if applicable and a list of your current medications.

Your injection appointment is carefully planned
Your first appointment may involve a detailed eye examination, imaging or other testing based on your referral and symptoms. Pupil-dilating drops are often used, so please allow up to 2 hours for your visit.
Dilating drops can make your vision blurred and your eyes more sensitive to light. We recommend that you do not drive yourself after the appointment. If you do need to drive later, allow 1 to 2 hours and bring sunglasses.
We work closely with referring GPs and optometrists, with timely updates provided about patient progress. If another condition is part of your eye care, you may also find our pages on glaucoma care, corneal conditions and our services useful before your visit.
